The end of our contribution to modern slavery

Never forget we're not responsible for the place where we've been born. We say we care but we don't give (a shit X 2). We speak about, we talk about globalisation. In fact, we just care about us and we think this is kind of normal. We want to work less to get what we say we really need. We want to work less everyday. In fact, the South has to pay the price each day in order to maintain our freedom at an affordable price. We accept that some human beings are still living in slavery. If we say we want to change this path now, we got to do some actions and become more responsible. Not for them, I will not follow their fucking statements. This is what we'll fight for, alright!!! (This is what happens X 2) when we don't give a fuck about them. It shall not happen anymore. It's time to choose. Here we go now. Just raise your arms and fight!!! Stop buying products that have been made in maquiladoras. It's not the time to get your voices down. It's time to choose what we think. Don't lose your faith, just raise your voice.

Explanation : With the globalisation of exchanges, some people might think this system is really helpful for the population of third world countries. In fact, with this new world order, the countries of the « South » are more than ever in a position of slavery. Under this unilateral paradigm, the poorest populations become nothing more than cheap labour and it's only the dominant states and their multinational corporations who are making the profits. Some people have tried to create fairer links between different populations. However, the problem is that the majority of the people in the Occident do not want to lose any of their comfort or cheap goods for consumption. It is important for us to consider the fact that 85% of the world's population are kept in extreme poverty in order to maintain our standard of living. We really have to change our way of life. Small actions like thinking before buying, asking more questions about the activities of different corporations and acting in reaction to that can make a major difference.

We really have to critique the World Bank and NGOs record on development, forest area protection and participation projects. Telling the people what to do does not always bring the desired effects. We shall pay attention to all the perspectives. Lohmann gave an interesting example to understand that complex scheme:

" Imagine that a government official arrives at your house and announces that certain modifications are going to have to be made in its structure which will make it impossible for you live there. He hastens to add that you are encouraged to participate in this renovation, and explains that you are free to ask for the documents which describe in detail what is to be done. Unfortunately, however, these documents are in Chinese. He is sorry about this, but the fact is that he has insufficient staff to translate them for you right now. He invites you to sympathize with his plight. The bright spot is that the documents, for those who can read them, describe how you will be 'empowered' in a way which will enable you to seek a better life once you have been moved out of your house."

All these projects are financed by people who have some objectives in mind. People have to be able to use their power to negotiate and transform.

Rethinking basic antiracism

No! All around the world we have seen anti-racist actions having some difficulties. We have to understand why we cannot fight back easily against these enemies. Racism has been modernized. Each time we try to battle them now. We've got to fight them back. We shouldn't take this for granted now. It's more severe than what we thought. Disrespect and murders again. What you fight, I'm proud of what you do and I'm proud of what you fight for because the war ain't over. It still all depends on how we want to erase racism. Now, if we want to reach all of ours goals. Every second, every hour we've got to fight.

Explanation : We will never be able to erase racism by violence. But we do think it is possible for us to break this inequality. The concept of race isn't natural. Thinkers from the Occident created it a few centuries ago in order to legitimize their actions (ex: slavery, robbery...) against foreign territories. If we really want to stop this pattern, we have to debunk the concept of race and even of gender. Don't say that all races are equal because you then accept their racist terms. We should see ourselves as members of the human group. We have to go back in history and see that these types of hierarchies are merely creations.

Antiracism, accordingly, has in many senses to be all-or-nothing commitment, a renewable undertaking to resist all racisms‚ expressions, to strike at their conditions of emergence and existence, to promote the internal decomposition of the community created by racism. It involves nothing short of assuming power: the power of the racialized, of the racially excluded and marginalized, to articulate for themselves and to represent for others who they are and what they want, where they come from, how they see themselves incorporated into the body politic, and how they see all the social body reflecting them.

Consequently, if freedom is to ring true for all, antiracism must be committed in the final analysis to dissolving in theories and in practice both the institutions of exclusionary power and the powers of exclusionary institutions. These commitments face the future rather than the past.

Globaliverne

Explanation : Since the fall of communism during the late 80's and early 90's, neo-liberal governments and corporations have tried to convince us that their point of view is the only valuable one and that all other perspectives are in the way of the famous concept of progress. Indeed, when we pay attention to what's going on in the world these days, we can see that many alternatives exist. In fact, these visions bring equality and wealth to a larger amount of people. This is not the first time dominant forces have claimed that resistance is worthless and useless. Let's show them we're still alive and alert. This is not the end of history.

Time and space compression

The state, even if it sometimes seems useless, is still the weapon of economic devices. But, think of that, we share
different goals. We let them all the liberty they need in order to accomplish their dreams. We have to consider that politics needs time and we must take it. It's all more than words. For example, make internet yours. It's a good weapon for this battle. Spread those words. What we fight for, the revolution, is right in front of us now. Make some efforts. We've got to find ways to break through. Now, try these tools. Are we going to trust them? No, try to start this fight. Now, try to... Are we going to trust them? No, they'll want to fight when we'll see all their corruption and control. This is the weakness of their scheme. Are we fighting too much? No!!! Inform new people each day. Are they fighting too much? No!!! Don't do what they want you to do. Try to think by yourself. This is the time for you to rise and for you to choose.

Explanation : Nowadays, we often hear that we should reduce the role of the state and give more responsibilities to the private sector. If it is true that governments are corrupt, corporate control does not guarantee more efficiency. It may sound possible when you think strictly in economic terms, but this can't be good for society as a whole. The poor will become poorer and poorer. In order to convince us, they say the government is almost obsolete. From our point of view, the situation is very different. We really think that by gaining back control of our political life, we can bring more equality to globalization. We must never forget that capitalism needs the support of the state in order to maintain a favourable economic climate and protect private property. We need to get more involved in politics. We have power in numbers. We can inject our vision of equity in the new world order.

Years of feminism destroyed

Men created the concept of gender and race in order to maintain hierarchy. This was a result of a patriarchal, occidental point of view. But, in history, categories have done some efforts to build equality again. So, I do want you to change now. How can we destroy these visions. Nowadays, you follow their standards. How could you do that. You dress yourself like they want you to do. You follow their standards. How can we destroy those efforts. Nowadays, you give your money and pride when I want you to think that it is them who bring unilateral development. Now, you give your money to those corporations. That's what it is. Be what you want, try everyday! Don't care about them. Be what you want, try everyday! That's the way to be free. Be what you want, try everyday! Don't car about them. Be what you want, try everyday!!! Don't try to be a women, a scientist, a child, a man or any of their categories. This is how we've created inequality again. Follow your own creativity. Learn about the battles that have been done. Try to go further. Try to run. I want you to think before buying. They are few and powerful but we're so many. How could we forgot what have been done. They are few and powerful but we are such a huge force. I don't want you to bend down alright. I just want you to fight.

Explanation : It may seem inappropriate to fight sexism by using the concept of gender because the separation between man and woman is the basis of inequality. Indeed, it is essential for women to stop supporting those who wish to maintain this relation of power. Men are in majority in politics, in the fashion business, in television, in corporate administration... However, there are more women on this planet and they are even more victims of poverty. In a way, we could say there is a lot of segregation within the male/female relationship. It is time to bridge this divide. There are many little actions we can do. For example, we can support more female-led initiatives, we have to fight for a real equality in the salaries, but also in the amount of work. We can also boycott products that have been produced by exploited workers, more often girls and women... We shall not lose the ground we've gained. Sexist and racist jokes are never harmless and funny. It is a way to maintain an artificial hierarchy. The battle against these types of inequalities must be a daily concern.

Matthew Sheppard, Carlos Giuliani…

Knowledge and power haven't seem to be important when we attack “non-normal” people. In those cases, social sciences have created the model to follow. During this period, we should know that normality is an historic concept. No more pain. Are we going to fight!!! No more segregation!!! Are we still going to trust them? Never I will follow your illusions. I want new ideas to rise now!!! Some ways to break them!!! Are we going to trust the media and accept their explanations? No!!! This is the way they use to control people and the their view of this world, ideology... (I will follow this X 2). Maybe you think I'm dumb but I will not listen to your bullshit now. Let's use our knowledge against them. This is the first and only weapon we've got. It's time to wake up and fight, people of the world, again. This is the world that I'm in right now. Let's use our knowledge against them. (I will never follow X 2) your ideals, your views. This is not the path we've got take now, alright? I'm going to say it to you (one more time X 2).

Explanation : Even if we claim that we live in an era of cultural acceptance, there is still a lot of work to do. In this song, we try to question the concept of normality. This concept is constantly changing according to the period, the situation, the area... Too many people are still tortured and killed each day by this hate of difference. We have to change this way of thinking. We must stop identifying ourselves in those terms. It may be less secure and more difficult but that's the only way to be really free. We should not modify our perceptions and
attitudes in order to become some so-called « normal » people.

Power is invisible until you provoke it.

So much of their billboards you could not see them. Mind shaping moguls saturating your brain. Abundance does not mean choice at all for you, when matter is brought higher than spirit. I got caught in that pattern too when I was young. You are in this too. Always choose the less followed path. The fewer of the few, they deserve nothing from us!!! No, they don't deserve anything from us. Now remember, automatic option is daily exploitation. I would like to see you fight one more time. I will not do the errors that I did when I was young.(Without us, they're nothing. Without them, we're everything x 2) New ways are open. Now!!!!!!!

Explanation : Our lifestyle and consumption has been shaped by the insidious marketing from the most powerful corporations. We take for granted abundance without noticing that we are always buying from the same handful of companies who have incredibly poor ethics and who control the world's economy. It is crucial to develop an alternative logic and focus on supporting local initiatives, smaller companies or buying directly from producers. Forming cooperative buying groups and supporting fair trade are other actions to aspire to. Those who already own too much don't deserve more!

Explanation : Everything for everyone. Examples of resistance in Mexico, Argentina and all of Latin America in the past years proves that popular self-management always is more viable than control of the territory by rich land owners or mercenaries hired by multinational corporations or political parties. Struggles for dignity and autonomy in South America must inspire us to try to transfer power back into our communities. Only then will another world be possible. When facing capitalism's vices, the rich will flee to safer havens but us, the people, have to continue to build our neighborhoods in an alternative way, despite the exploiters in our way.

Prison of life

What I once felt. Have I been deceived? Throughout my memories (you've tried too much X 2) to change me. Razor edges cutting the wire. Which wire was it? All (I've got inside X 4). (You took it all x 2). What's the real question now? Is it me or is it you? Picking into my head. Is it over yet? Am I awake? All this time, things rearranged. You've tried, tried too much. But I want to give it all I can. I've started from the start. Throughout my memories (you've tried too much X 2) to destroy my view, destroy my goals, my visions. No I will not let you do that. All theses times I was told that I was wrong in this prison of a life. I was taught to bend down. But my way isn't wrong anymore.

Explanation : Like Shulasmith Firestone once said, we have to stop separating children from the adults. This separation is a relatively recent phenomenon. We should not idealize the past but we can say for sure that things have changed and maybe not for the better. We have to consider the fact that even today, phenoma like the “teenage crisis” or menopause don't exist in many cultures. We think that we should stop this categorization because we kill the creativity and the imagination of the young by doing this. We have to abolish this pattern and give them a real opportunity to become emancipated in this society.

Religious icons are creations of men

In a world with constant changes, every human being needs something to rely to. They sometimes need heroes to tell us that everything is possible in this world. Some need to know that they will live forever in an another world with their god or any of their icons. But I think you've got to believe in yourself now. Never forget. Instead of believing in yourself, you don't realize that you prefer to live in another reality and that it is defining your actions. Never I will follow your dogma. You don't have to think when you follow those dogmas. I will not follow these leaders. (Never forget that what they say ain't real. First time I saw you, you were re-creating this mess.(Revolt now!!! X 2) X 2). Try to watch Mankind* finally again. We must accept that we have to join nowadays and we must end this fucking transmission and build our own communication. Now, now, we have to go further. We believe in these norms of shit that bring submission and rise the slavery. Stop your prayers. Fuck your passivity. Stop your prayers. I will not let you forget. *In fact, we should consider all species.

Explanation : This song addresses the fact that a lot of people are waiting for a better life after death. For us, this is nonsense. When you think about it, it is our constant passivity that is responsible for a lot of problems on this planet. Many people listen carefully to the dogmas of their church. This is frightening when you consider that the catholic church, for example, has repeatedly worked with dictators, right wing governments and criminal corporations. Instead of waiting for a better life after death, we should put more efforts in our daily lives. This is the only way to make our desires come true.

Direct action is more than wearing a Che Guevara t-shirt

We continue to support development. In fact, are we caring more about the price we pay? Ignorance and bliss. Wal-Mart is now selling Che Guevara t-shirts. Now we have to think twice before we buy. Have we been recuperated by capitalist theories? We don't claim that we have the right way to fight those pro-capitalist bastards. Indeed, we still do a lot of errors like everyone else but we try to think before we buy something. Do we need that? Where does the money go? Can I live without these objects now even if they say it is essential? You might say it isn't much but it is a start for us. I will never listen to you.

Explanation : It is sometimes really hard to figure out what we should do to bring about justice ... Even when we try something, we never know if the results are going to be bad or marvellous. For example, some of the concepts from radical environmentalists in the seventies have been co-opted by NGO'S and big corporations in order to gain control over the resources of different countries without being held accountable to governments. However, we still think it is necessary to constantly question authorities and to act. Eventually, governments and corporations will have to pay attention to our point of view.
