Description
Greg MacPherson has been called "a contemporary nomad of uncommon sensibilities" ...
... by his brother.
Regardless, for a man who makes a living cleaning toilets and burying the dead, Greg MacPherson does spend an inordinate amount of time crisscrossing continents to spend his hours mining the depths of the people and places he encounters.
In another time and place the fruits of this labour might have been simply referred to as "honest"; today it's "political". Setting himself at odds with the dictates of market-forces that neither value nor respect the individual or the artist, MacPherson consciously sidesteps the canned production, the image consultation and the requisite happy endings to walk in the footsteps of iconoclasts like Joe Strummer and David Byrne.
Accordingly, his latest recording, Night Flares, is well removed from a world of demographics and target marketing. There ainít nothing cold or calculated about it. His band is dangerous, the songs are real and the vision is clear.
Itís simple: heís one of the best song-writers in Canada and this record is something thatís actually good in an otherwise expanding universe of pure shit.
